About Us
Who Are We?
We are family-owned and operated roaster, founded by a husband and wife team who share a passion for good coffee. Our goal is provide customers with the freshest roasted-to-order coffee possible.
Our Core Values.
Culture Over Commerce. This means there are things we value more than the almighty dollar. Family, friends, health, and overall contentment aren't things we are willing to trade for a buck. We close for holidays, birthdays, graduations, weddings, and other cultural engagements. While this approach isn't necessarily the best for business, we believe it is the best for the human spirit. Maybe it's just the millennial in us.
The Return of Customer Relationships. We value you as a customer, whereas many businesses only see you as a consumer.
What's the difference you ask? With customers, there is an implied relationship. We love engaging with our customers, even when they aren't purchasing from us. Customer opinions are meaningful and we are always looking for ways to give customers a larger say in the business. We desire to create a community between business and customer.
On the flipside, there is no implied relationship between business and consumer other than the transactional. Consumers are seen as merely a means to an end.
Why Electric Sky?
It's an homage to our home, Las Vegas. If you've ever spent any time here, you know how electric the sky is - from the bright lights of the city to the amazing sunrises and sunsets in the surrounding desert and mountains.
Our Story.
Mary's journey is simple - she inherited her love of coffee. Having grown up in both Italy and the US, coffee is a big part of her Italian-American family. She has been drinking coffee for as long as she can remember, and doesn't plan on stopping anytime soon.
David, on-the-other-hand, hated coffee. He had only ever had either the stale, pre ground stuff from the store, or the overly sugary drinks that masquerade as coffee. Even while serving in the Air Force, he just couldn't bring himself to drink the stuff. Eventually, Mary wore him down and finally convinced him to try good coffee from a real coffeehouse. Hence a monster was created.
Together, we began roasting coffee as a hobby, just so we could taste what different coffees from around the world had to offer. It started simply enough, in a cast iron pan over the gas stove in the kitchen. We had no idea how messy coffee roasting was - there was chaff everywhere. We graduated to an air popcorn machine, which worked okay. From there, David modified a used toaster oven. Thankfully, that never caught fire, but we did have a few close calls. It's so much nicer having a real commercial roaster now.
In the beginning, we gave away more coffee than we kept. People always offered to pay, but we couldn't accept. Eventually, people we didn't even know were asking to buy coffee from us. Not only did we not know these people, but we didn't even know the people who were referring them to us. Thus the start of Electric Sky Roasters.
Peace and joy,
David and Mary co-founders of Electric Sky Roasters
